Ukraine and North Europe Trip - 2004 / 40808_51 . . . Travelling through the hill country of Luxembourg.
We got up early since we had a lot of ground to cover. We didn't see any particular reason to drive back to Amsterdam then go east and north so we took the Reims-Metz roads east, headed to Luxembourg and then north to Rheine, Germany. The French roads were toll roads again and cost about Eu20 in total. Luxembourg had huge line ups at the first gas station in the country - E0.73 vs E0.98 for gas in France. It was funny how the roads looked: except for the windfarms that pop up frequently, the terrain looks like it was borrowed from a place in Canada that I have previously been to. Even the section just inside the Lux-German border had the look of a micro Tyrol with its deep crevice like gullys and high stilted bridges crossing them.. The autobahns in Germany were fun but I was thankful for diesel prices since the wind resistance on the car would be very high at continuous speeds of 160 - 180 kph. Roads were generally excellent all the way and I can only believe the Ukrainians can't wait for the day they too can have them.
